
Shannon Thacker Cregg is an artist and educator based in San Antonio, Texas. She studied sculpture and printmaking at The University of Alabama and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts. Shannon’s art has been exhibited throughout the United States, particularly in Alabama, Texas, Arkansas, and Ohio. Her work focuses on critiquing disciplinary practices in schools, analyzing educational policies, and embracing liberatory educational research.
After Shannon completed her undergraduate degree, she became interested in the social impact of the arts. These experiences prompted her to pursue a master’s degree in art education from The Ohio State University. While at The Ohio State University, she focused on increasing inclusion in the arts for individuals with disabilities. Shannon mentored artists with disabilities at an accessible art studio, interned at VSA Ohio, created an inclusive museum professional development program , and presented her research on inclusion in various forums. For these efforts, she was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Student Advocate Award from Student Life Disability Services at The Ohio State University. This award recognizes a graduate student who has made an exemplary commitment to access and inclusion on campus and in the community. In addition, the National Art Education Association awarded her the Disability Studies in Art Education Award for Master’s Thesis in 2022. Her research and writing has been published in Art Education, Journal of Cultural Research in Art Education, and SchoolArts. Additionally, she is a graduate from the National Art Education Association’s School for Art Leaders.
Since graduating from The Ohio State University, Shannon has been working as an elementary art teacher in Northside ISD in Title 1 schools. She continues to utilize the lessons she has learned on accessibility and inclusion in her current teaching position.
